An antique sickle sharpener, by McCormick Deering was a tool designed to maintain and sharpen the blades of sickles, scythes, and other agricultural cutting implements. The design of antique sickle sharpeners varied, but they typically consisted of a mechanism for holding the sickle securely in place and a grinding or sharpening component. This component could be a stone, abrasive wheel, or similar material that allowed the user to carefully grind and hone the blade’s edge. This particular one has the abrasive wheel. Made in the USA.
