British made hand crank Frister & Rossman sewing machine from the mid 19th century. It’s an incredible find that you don’t see everyday. Not sure if this is still a working piece, perhaps an ornate and decorative historical piece.
Frister & Rossman is a well-known brand in the sewing machine industry with a history dating back to the 19th century. They have produced a wide range of sewing machines, including hand-crank models. Hand-crank sewing machines, as the name suggests, are operated by manually turning a crank handle. These machines are non-electric and require the user to provide the power needed to operate the sewing mechanism. Hand-crank sewing machines were popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when electricity was not readily available in all households.
